Humble Beginnings & Lasting Foundations

The story of First Apostolic Church of Toledo began in 1937

When a small group of believers gathered in the home of Leo and Helen Carver on Jackman Road. From those humble beginnings, the church steadily grew, eventually relocating to its first dedicated building at 2017 Detroit Avenue. In the years that followed, the church was served by several pastors including T.J. Miller and Marlin Odom, who helped shepherd the early congregation and lay a spiritual foundation during its formative years.

In 1953, Fred and Vera Kinzie were elected as pastors and faithfully led the church for the next 30 years. Under their leadership, the church experienced steady growth and established deep roots in the Toledo community. The Kinzies were known for their unwavering commitment to biblical truth, prayer, and a genuine love for people. Their pastoral care and spiritual leadership laid a strong and lasting foundation that would carry the church forward for generations.

Expanding the Vision & Empowering the Mission

In 1983, Bishop J. Mark Jordan became Senior Pastor, bringing visionary leadership and a passion for excellence in ministry.

Over his three decades of service, the church experienced significant expansion—relocating to 5701 W. Sylvania Avenue and developing a full campus that included a new sanctuary, daycare, Family Life Center, and Apostolic Christian Academy (originally founded as Toledo Christian Academy in 1978). His leadership elevated the church’s influence both locally and within the broader apostolic movement, as he trained ministers, developed leaders, and fostered a culture of strong biblical preaching and teaching.

In 2013, Kris Dillingham was elected as Senior Pastor and continues to serve in that role today. With a renewed emphasis on biblical discipleship and everyday missional living, the church has been mobilized to engage its community with intentionality and purpose. Through small groups, leadership development, and a culture of multiplication, the church continues to raise up disciple-makers equipped to live on mission.

A New Chapter: Becoming Summit Church

A New Chapter: Becoming Summit Church

Now, in 2025, the church is embracing a new chapter. On August 24, 2025.

First Apostolic Church of Toledo will officially become Summit Church – The Apostolics of Toledo. This transition reflects more than a name change—it represents a renewed vision: to lead people into transformational relationship with Jesus, multiply disciples who live missionally, and become a sending center that impacts the Toledo Metro, major cities across the U.S., and nations around the world.
